In celebration of Recreation & Parks Month (June) and International Trails Day (June 4), the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is hosting their annual Trails Day and 19th Annual Mayor’s Hike for Health at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Join us from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to learn more about Scanlon Creek and a guided hike by the staff at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA). This complimentary (free) event includes a barbeque lunch for participants, live music, and other family-friendly activities including children’s entertainment, outdoor games, and fitness activities.

This event is a great opportunity to explore Scanlon Creek Conservation Area, which offers diverse hiking trails, covered picnic pavilions, an off-leash dog park, a playground, and unique lookout points for birders and photographers. A short 10-minute drive from the centre of town, Scanlon Creek features five trails that vary in difficulty and terrain, including a boardwalk through the marsh where you can spot ducks, herons, and beavers. Scanlon Creek is also home to a variety of forests, wetlands, meadows, and wildlife.

Parking will be free for the event, however please note there is normally a parking fee. The Conservation Authority has started a new fundraising initiative called TipTap. This is an easy way to give $5, $10 or $20 to help maintain and improve the Conservation Areas. When you see the sign you can tap your phone or card - it's a simple way to donate and help care for this greenspace. Donations go directly to the Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation.

Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just want to enjoy some time outdoors, Trails Day at Scanlon Creek will have something for everyone!

Trails Day takes place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the occasion. For more information please visit www.townofbwg.com/TrailsDay
