A community support worker faces a fraud charge after a vulnerable individual was defrauded of more than $10,000, York Regional Police said.
A family member reported to police on Nov. 24, 2023 that between 2021 and 2023, more than $10,000 had been withdrawn from the victim’s account. The victim would not have been able to complete these transactions themselves, police said. A person had been employed to assist with the victim’s daily living and financial support, police added.
Michelle Mason, 44, of Newmarket is charged with fraud over $5,000, police said.
Investigators said an image of the suspect is being released as there may be additional victims. The suspect worked for multiple organizations that assist vulnerable members of the community, police added.
