Driver hit police cruiser after being seen drinking from bottle of rum: OPP

A 42-year-old from New Tecumseth faces three charges related to impaired driving, Nottawasaga OPP says

A driver from New Tecumseth is facing charges after being spotted allegedly drinking from a bottle of Malibu rum.

Nottawasaga OPP say the traffic tip came in at around 8 p.m. on Monday, March 17.

The suspect vehicle was last seen travelling south on Church Street.

Officers on patrol tracked down the vehicle to a nearby parking lot.

“Two marked cruisers approached the vehicle, initiated the (traffic) stop then the suspect vehicle proceeded to reverse into the front of one cruiser,” OPP alleged in a news release.

OPP say the driver failed a test with an approved screening device.

The 42-year-old was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80-plus)
  • Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous operation

In addition, their licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for a week.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a Bradford court on April 10.
