There’s a new deputy chief in the towns of Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil.
The Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Services Board announced March 25 that Chris Landry will be the newest deputy chief of the South Simcoe Police Service, effective April 22.
“I am honoured to be given this opportunity to … serve alongside the many great women and men in a highly respected organization, supporting our growing communities,” Landry said in a media release. “I will uphold our mission, vision and values, working together to serve and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive culture where people come first.”
Landry brings more than 30 years of experience with the OPP to the role.
“We are delighted,” board chair Chris Gariepy stated. “His extensive experience, proven leadership and dedication to public safety makes him an outstanding addition to the Senior Command Team. We are confident that his vision and expertise will further strengthen our commitment to serving and protecting the communities of Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil.”
Landry began his OPP career as a constable in 1994, and was assigned to uniform patrol and served as a coach officer. In 2000, he served as detective constable across multiple units. Then in 2013, he was promoted to detective sergeant, then to staff sergeant for OPP Central Region, Dufferin and Barrie detachments, where he was assigned as acting detachment commander for a combined time of about one year.
In 2016, he became a detective staff sergeant for the Central Region Crime Program where he led, coordinated, monitored and supported major criminal investigations throughout OPP Central Region.
In 2018, he advanced to detective inspector for the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch, providing executive leadership and mentorship to multiple teams of police officers and civilian members. In that role, he also served as deputy director of OPP Financial Crime Services, Serious Fraud Office for one year, investigating highly complex financial crimes both nationally and internationally. He was then promoted in 2023 to the rank of detective superintendent, where his responsibilities included strategic leadership and management of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau for more than 300 uniform and civilian OPP members.
Landry has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Crime and Deviance from the University of Toronto. He has also finished several training and educational programs through the Ontario Police College related to investigative analysis, major case management, media relations, professional standards, people-centred leadership, and cyber crime, fraud, sexual-assault and homicide investigations.
He lives in Bradford with his wife and two daughters.
“We are excited,” Chief John Van Dyke said. “His experience, skills and abilities will be invaluable to the service. Our service is a family, and his appointment is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and contributions to both the police service and our communities.”
Landry succeeds Deputy Chief Sheryl Sutton, who retires on April 30 after 36 years of policing.
A swearing-in ceremony will take place at a future date.
