Nottawasaga OPP is following the lead of many other detachments in the province by having its officers equipped with body-worned cameras.
This comes after the detachment introduced other technology including in-car cameras and automated licence plate recognition systems.
“The implementation of (body-worn cameras) provides one more tool for the OPP to enable the collection of better evidence, demonstrate greater accountability and transparency, and enhance public and officer safety in the communities we serve,” police said in a news release.
The cameras are worn on the front of an officer’s vest. They display a ring of flashing green lights when in standby mode and will turn to flashing red when they begin recording.
Officer training on the use of the cameras is underway. The full rollout is expected by the summer, but officers who have finished training will begin using the cameras immediately.
