A King Township man is wanted for attempted murder following a New Year’s Day shooting.
At about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to a motel just east of Bradford West Gwillimbury, in the area of Yonge Street and Queensville Sideroad, where they located a 24-year-old man with gunshot injuries. He was taken to a trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. The suspect was not at the scene.
On Jan. 2, South Simcoe police confirmed to BradfordToday they had initially taken the call. It was then transferred to York Regional Police (YRP) because the property is technically within YRP territory.
Andrew Joseph Pitre, 33, is wanted for attempted murder and firearms-related offences. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Pitre is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is advised to not approach him and to call 911 immediately.
He is facing the following charges:
- Attempted murder
- Discharging a firearm with intent
- Careless use of a firearm
- Aggravated assault
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a restricted firearm
- Pointing a firearm
- Unlicensed person in possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon
