A standoff in Innisfil was resolved peacefully Thursday night.
On Aug. 22 at about 4 p.m., South Simcoe police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife in the area of Lilac and Inglewood drives, located in the east end of Alcona.
Officers attended and the accused fled on foot. The man subsequently entered a residence and barricaded himself inside.
Numerous sirens could be heard for minutes from kilometres away.
“Police set up containment of the home,” South Simcoe police spokesperson Isabella Soligo said in a media release. “Members of our Emergency Response Unit were on scene along with trained Crisis Negotiators, Simcoe EMS, and Barrie Police.”
At about 8:30 p.m., a warrant was executed and the accused was taken into custody shortly thereafter. No one was injured.
Neighbours told InnisfilToday the man is alleged to have a “violent history” and they were relieved he had been taken into custody “again.”
The 47-year-old Innisfil man has been charged with assault with a weapon (two counts), possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts) and carrying a concealed weapon. He was held for a bail hearing.
