Bradford man, 71, accused of breaking into three parked vehicles

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at approximately 3:00 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a report of a man entering vehicles in the Bridge Street and Given Road area of Bradford.

Upon arrival, police determined that three vehicles parked in the driveway of a home had been entered and items stolen.

The suspect then attempted to break into the home but was scared off by a witness. The suspect was arrested nearby without incident. Stolen property was recovered.

As a result of the investigation, 71-year-old Walter Gilas of Bradford was charged with two counts theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle, possession of break in instruments, trespass/prowl near dwelling house, three counts breach of recognizance and fail to comply with judicial release. He was held for a bail hearing.

Thank you to the citizen who immediately called police and assisted us in making an arrest.  Our communities are safer when we work together.
