Bradford West Gwillimbury’s leisure services department has been celebrating Recreation and Parks Month with a series of indoor and outdoor special activities designed to get residents up and moving all June.
And bright and early on Monday morning, an energetic group of more than 20 people kicked off their week with an outdoor Zumba session.
Zumba is an exercise program that sets dance moves to Latin-flavoured beats and popular tunes to provide a whole body workout.
Instructor Julia Basden led the way, under sunny skies.
“It’s just an opportunity for people to get outside and get active,” said Stephanie Uren, fitness supervisor. “This morning we were super excited to come outside, after that rain on the weekend.”
Uren said the leisure centre team has seen “lots of regulars” come out for its Recreation and Parks Month activities, but also “some new faces from the community.”
Not only can they participate in the special events for a minimal or no cost, all participants get a ballot to enter a draw for prizes that include frisbees, goggles, water bottles, gym bags, Kaboodle swimming bag, and a one-month free membership at the leisure centre.
