Charity hopes to raise $105k to help local students returning to school

As the new school year approaches, thousands of children are gearing up for a fresh start, but for many, the excitement of returning to class is overshadowed by the worry of not having the essential supplies they need to succeed. That’s where you come in!

Glowing Hearts Charity is calling on the generous hearts in our community to support their Backpacks for Youth Supply Drive. The goal is to raise $105,200.

Glowing Hearts Charity (GHC) has 2,630 children and youth in need across Simcoe County looking for support this summer through their Backpacks for Youth program, well-beyond their anticipated 2,000 registrations.

“For many students, the right supplies can make all the difference. Imagine starting your first day with a new backpack filled with fresh supplies that spark creativity and readiness for learning," says Sarah Fleming, managing director and board chair.

"Unfortunately, this isn’t the reality for every child. Every donation, whether it’s a few dollars or a handful of supplies, helps us get closer to our goal of equipping 2,633 students for success,” said Fleming.

By contributing to the supply drive, you’re not just providing pencils and paper; you’re giving hope, encouragement, and the opportunity for these young minds to thrive, and allowing families to direct the funds they do have to other necessities like food.

  1. Donate Money: Financial contributions allow GHC to purchase supplies in bulk, ensuring that they can get the best deals. Your donation directly impacts the success of this drive.
  2. Contribute Supplies: If you prefer to shop for supplies, there is a detailed list of needed items and drop off locations on the webpage below. Your donations will fill these backpacks with everything a student needs to start their school year strong.
