Satin Beauty Bar was established in July 2021 by Melanie Gill, a makeup, lash and brow artist proudly serving Simcoe County. Gill’s profession in the beauty industry started in Bradford three years ago but her passion for makeup started at age 10 as a figure skater, getting makeup done for her performances.
“I remember going to Faces kiosk in the mall, or Mac, and picking up Ruby Woo [lipstick] and a few eye shadows I needed for my skating competition,” she said. “Browsing the aisles – I was completely mesmerized with all the different products, colours, and textures.”
She says her mom, Jackie, taught her how to do her makeup for the skating compeititions and her passion only grew from there.
“My mom always said ‘Never leave the house without your lipstick on,’ and that has stuck with me,” Gill said.
At Satin Beauty Bar, Gill offers several services: lash extensions, brow tinting and waxing, lash lift and tint, brow lamination, facial waxing, makeup applications, bridal trials, and bridal makeup. Her most popular, she says, is her bridal services.
“I offer bridal trials to brides and bridal parties as well as on-location bridal and bridal party makeup applications," she said.
She loves working with the bride before the wedding, doing trials, and seeing everything come together on their big day.
“It makes me happy to be doing makeup for a bride on her special day...Meeting so many different people, and seeing my work in shots from the photographer," she said.
Gill says her clients are her biggest inspiration.
“My vision for my brand is ‘Redefining Beauty.’ To me, this means inspiring everyone to feel their most beautiful and to redefine what beauty means, to better fit each individual. The feeling of performing a service and having the client feel so confident and beautiful has been something I strive to experience with everyone I work with," she said.
In the future, Gill hopes to expand and create a bridal party "dream team" of talented artists including hairstylists and makeup artists.
She will continue to offer bridal services, and will soon offer brow and lash services when she returns from maternity leave this spring. Gill says that she wants to build a beautiful home studio and hopes to create a makeup or brush line in the future.
