Military police and Nottawasaga OPP officers joined forces to arrest an alleged drunk driver who authorities say registered almost four times the legal limit Thursday evening in Angus.
Shortly after 5 p.m. on Feb. 20, provincial police responded to a call to help a member of the OPP Central Region TIME (Traffic Incident Enforcement Management) team who was on general patrol in Angus.
The officer attempted to stop a vehicle which had registered an ALPR (Automated Licence Plate Recognition) system "hit" for being a suspended driver, according to police.
Police say the driver failed to stop for the officer and entered Canadian Forces Base Borden.
"Officers were able to locate the driver in the vehicle with the assistance of the military police and, as a result, the driver was also arrested for impaired driving consuming nearly four times the legal limit," OPP stated in a news release.
Michael Stratton, 43, of Tottenham, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs), operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80 plus), flight from a peace officer, driving while under suspension (two counts), and driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor (two counts).
The accused was charged recently with two previous counts of impaired operation offences and, as a result, was held for a bail hearing, according to the OPP.
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
