NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE
****************************
On Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020 at approximately 11 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement on Shore Acres Drive in Innisfil observed an SUV travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was clocked at 132 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the SUV continued driving before pulling into a gas station at Yonge Street.

While speaking to the driver, the officer detected an odour of cannabis in the vehicle and observed cannabis readily available. The vehicle was searched under the Cannabis Control Act. A roadside screening device test was conducted which resulted in a Fail. The driver was arrested and transported to South Division where further testing resulted in readings over the legal limit of alcohol.

As a result of an investigation, 43-year-old Ryan Walsh of Innisfil was charged with the following:
    •    Over 80
    •    Operation while impaired
    •    Stunt driving
    •    Speeding
    •    Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle
    •    Fail to have insurance card
    •    Have care or control of a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released with a future court date.

Sixteen per cent of serious injury collisions involved a drunk driver. We also know that speed kills. Don't be selfish.
