Innisfil driver arrested twice in 24 hours — including once for hitting a child

The 33-year-old man is facing multiple charges as a result

A 24-hour stretch saw an Innisfil driver arrested twice in connection with separate incidents which included hitting a child on a bike with their vehicle.

On Saturday around 4:30 p.m., officers with the South Simcoe Police Service responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Webster Boulevard and Innisfil Beach Road.

An investigation revealed that a child on a bike had been hit by a vehicle. The child was treated on scene by paramedics and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say that witnesses reported the vehicle travelling at inconsistent speeds before abruptly speeding up and hitting the child. Police say that the driver fled the scene after being confronted by witnesses. 

The driver was found and arrested and police say the accused is currently sentenced to three separate licence suspensions.

The driver, 33, has been charged with:

  • operation while prohibited (two counts)
  • fail to remain
  • careless driving cause bodily harm
  • drive while suspended (three counts)

Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police were notified by an iPhone crash report of a collision at Lockhart Road and 25th Sideroad.

Officers responded and found a vehicle on its side with the driver trapped inside.

Innisfil Fire and Rescue Services personnel helped the driver from the vehicle and the driver was then taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say that an investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which had been airborne briefly. 

A warrant was sought for the driver's blood to check for impairment.

The driver was ultimately charged with:

  • failure to comply with undertaking
  • operation while prohibited (two counts)
  • drive while suspended (three counts)
  • dangerous operation
