An Essa Township man has been charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop Tuesday in Alliston.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers were on patrol on Victoria Street East when they saw a vehicle weaving over the centre line and being driven at inconsistent speeds. The driver then attempted to make a left turn on a red light at the intersection of Victoria Street and County Road 10, Nottawasaga OPP said in a news release.

During a traffic stop, a strong odour of an alcohol was detected on the driver’s breath, and the driver had delayed responses to an officer’s commands, police said. While looking for his vehicle documents, the driver got out and was swaying and unsteady on his feet.

The 30-year-old was charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.

He has an April 10 court date in Bradford.
