Nottawasaga OPP has charged an alleged drug dealer operating in Angus.
As a result of an ongoing investigation, police say members of the Nottawasaga OPP community street crime unit (CSCU) made an arrest in relation to several drug-related offences in Essa Township.
Police say the Nottawasaga CSCU began an investigation after receiving information about alleged drug-trafficking in Angus in late 2024.
On Jan. 3, police say officers observed the suspect conducting multiple drug transactions in the township. As a result, police conducted a traffic stop on County Road 10 and arrested the suspect.
Police say a subsequent search turned up a functioning conducted-energy weapon (Taser), 12 grams of cocaine valued at approximately $1,200, $1,550 in cash, a baseball bat, three scales, materials used to package drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The suspect now faces several charges under the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drug and Substances Act and the Highway Traffic Act.
Wayne Harris, 62, of Essa Township, has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), trafficking a Schedule I substance (cocaine), possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon at an unauthorized place, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, failure to notify change of address, no clear view to front, operating an unsafe vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, driving a motor vehicle/failure to display two plates, and driving with improper headlights.
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6.
