A Scarborough man has been charged with impaired driving after provincial police say a vehicle nearly struck an OPP cruiser early Sunday morning.
Shortly before 4 a.m. on Dec. 8, Nottawasaga OPP says an officer was conducting general patrols southbound on County Road 27 in Essa Township when a northbound passenger vehicle "suddenly crossed over the lane" toward the officer's vehicle.
Police say the officer continued to follow the vehicle for a moment, allegedly observing speeds to be 60 kilometres per hour in a posted 80-km/h zone.
"The vehicle continued to cross over the centre lane into live traffic," police stated in a release.
The officer conducted a traffic stop.
Christian Valiant, 28, of Scarborough, has been charged with adult operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and operation while impaired (blood-drug concentration 80 plus).
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on Jan. 9 to answer to the charges.
