Provincial police have charged four people, including a Barrie man, in connection to an attempted carjacking in Angus last week.

Nottawasaga OPP announced the charges on Feb. 4 in relation to an incident that happened Jan. 30 and was investigated by the detachment's community street crime unit (CSCU).

At 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, police say CSCU officers were in Angus when they allegedly observed a drug deal between the suspects and the victim.

"The accused parties attempted to forcefully remove the victim from their vehicle, but were unsuccessful," OPP stated in a news release. "The victim escaped with their vehicle travelling southbound on Mill Street in Angus.

"The accused parties pursued the victim at high rates of speed, weaving in and out of heavy traffic," police said.

CSCU officers, with assistance from front-line members, intervened and placed three people under arrest.

On Feb. 3, police say a fourth suspect was also arrested and held for a bail hearing.

Kelsey Lang, 29, of Cookstown, has been charged with robbery with intent and was released from custody with a March 6 court date.

James Hamilton, 28, of Innisfil, has been charged with robbery with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two counts of driving while under suspension. Hamilton was held for a bail hearing and later released with a Feb. 27 court date.

Christopher Lang, 28, of Vaughan, has been charged with robbery with intent and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine). Lang was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 4.

Robert Palfrey, 62, of Barrie, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine). Palfrey was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 13.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
