Driver charged after fleeing police in New Tecumseth: OPP

Police say accused fled into residence after blowing stop sign Wednesday

Ontario Provincial Police laid charges against a 25-year-old Alliston resident Wednesday.

A driver who fled into a residence following an attempted traffic stop Wednesday in New Tecumseth is facing numerous charges.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police attempted to pull over a driver who didn’t stop at a stop sign in the area of Arnold Crescent. The driver then fled on foot into a residence in the area. Police knocked on the door and confirmed the driver was under suspension, Nottawasaga OPP said in a news release. 

A 25-year-old Alliston resident has been was charged with the following:

  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Unlawfully being in a dwelling house
  • Driving a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Failing to surrender a permit for a motor vehicle
  • Failing to surrender an insurance card
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Disobeying a stop sign — fail to stop

The vehicle will be impounded for seven days, and the accused has a Feb. 2 court date in Bradford.
