Barrie police, along with a South Simcoe Police canine unit, tracked down and arrested a break-and-enter suspect on Prince William Way in southeast Barrie on Thursday night.

City police, assisted by a South Simcoe canine unit, arrested a 33-year-old man following a break-and-enter theft in southeast Barrie last night.

On Feb. 6, at 7:41 p.m., officers received the call and responded to the scene on Prince William Way, near Big Bay Point Road, where they located the suspect, courtesy of “a good canine track,” police communications coordinator Peter Leon said.

“There was containment set up, which was why there was a significant presence in the area,” he said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with break-and-enter as well as a number of other charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in instruments, disguise with intent and failing to comply with a release order.

He is being held by police as he awaits a bail hearing at the Barrie courthouse.
