A man with a handgun, who was making threats and spitting on people at a West Street North apartment complex, was arrested early this morning.
The Orillia OPP were called shortly after midnight for reports of "an individual making threats and spitting on people," notes a media release.
After "securing" the area, officers observed a man with a firearm.
"Officers quickly de-escalated the situation and safely brought the individual into custody," notes the media release.
Darnell Chambers-Cooper, 24, is facing multiple charges:
- Four counts of failure to comply with a release order;
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm;
- Two counts of possession of prohibited ammunition;
- Five counts of uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm;
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm;
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; and
- Obstruct peace officer
As a result of the investigation, a quantity of Xanax was seized in addition to a Glock handgun, .45-calibre ammunition, more than $800 in cash and a cell phone.
Chambers-Cooper is being held in custody, police say. Police did not indicate where the suspect is from.
