Tasty treats, great tunes and the many other layers to Innisfil Onion Fest

This annual event is slated to return to the Innisfil Recreational Complex June 21 to 23

It's time to cry happy tears again.

Innisfil Community Events (ICE) volunteers are thrilled to present the third annual Innisfil Onion Fest from June 21 to 23.

The event takes place at the Innisfil Recreational Complex (7315 Yonge St.).

“Onion Fest is a vibrant celebration that truly captures the essence of our community. This festival is more than just an event; it's a rich tapestry of entertainment, culture and local heritage that showcases the very best of Innisfil,” ICE president Chris Reynolds Jr. said. “By attending, residents have the chance to immerse themselves in a diverse array of activities, from enjoying mouth-watering local cuisine to discovering unique performances and engaging in family-friendly fun.”

Onion Fest will include a variety of live entertainment, a cornhole tournament, children’s activities, midway rides, fireworks, food trucks, onion-eating contests, a beverage garden and an artisan market.

“One of the most anticipated aspects of ... Onion Fest is the exciting performance by the Taylor Swift tribute band (Taylor's Story), which promises to be a highlight for music lovers of all ages,” Reynolds said. “We are also looking forward to the diverse array of local food vendors showcasing the culinary delights. The artisan market will be another focal point, offering unique handmade crafts and products that highlight the talents of our local artisans. Family-friendly activities and live performances throughout the event ensure there is something enjoyable for everyone.

"Most importantly, we are eager to see the community come together, celebrate our shared heritage, and strengthen the bonds that make Innisfil such a special place to live.”

Horodynsky Farms is once again this year’s platinum sponsor. Other returning sponsors include K. Kwinter Sanitation Inc., Spring Tree Farm, Simcoe Foundation, Electrical Elite, ACE Web Design Inc., and Cooper Rentals, while the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) will sponsor Friday evening’s entertainment.

Music from the 1950s to 1970s with Walk Down Memory Lane will commence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, with tunes by Roy Orbison, Mel Carter, Conway Twitty and The Duprees. Peasant Kings will wrap up the first night when they take the stage from 9:30 to 11 p.m.

On Saturday, the headliner is Taylor's Story, performing at 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday afternoon, a two-time Canadian National Elvis Tribute Artist, Terry Chisholm, may dance around in Blue Suede Shoes when he takes the stage at 3:30 p.m.

The event will also feature performances by Cam Galloway throughout the weekend — Galloway is slated to be an emerging artist at the Boots and Hearts Music Festival.

“One of the highlights of Onion Fest is its ability to bring people together. It’s a time for neighbours to reconnect, for new friendships to blossom, and for families to create cherished memories. The festival provides a welcoming and lively atmosphere where everyone can feel a sense of belonging and pride in our community,” said Reynolds, whose father — a founding member of ICE — inspired him to join the organization in 2011.

“Supporting Innisfil’s local businesses is another key aspect of the festival. Attendees can explore and support local vendors, helping to boost our local economy and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit within our town,” he added.

ICE marketing director Nadine Singh credited the "small but mighty team" that organizes its events for the organization's success.

“Watching the residents of Innisfil come together to enjoy our events is what drives our organization forward,” she said. "Organizing ... is a monumental task that requires immense energy, dedication and time from a passionate team of volunteers, organizers and community partners. Many people believe the town puts on this event but it's fuelled strictly by volunteers leading already busy lives."

Onion Fest is one of ICE's largest events, so far pouring more than $200,000 back into several causes like the Rizzardo Health & Wellness Centre, Innisfil Food Bank, Gilda's Club Simcoe Muskoka and more, Reynolds said.

“Volunteers work tirelessly to ensure every detail is perfect, from setting up the venue to managing event activities," Singh said. "And while something is bound to go wrong, we persevere, adapting and overcoming challenges to ensure the festival's success. The collaborative effort of local businesses, sponsors and community organizations is crucial in bringing this vibrant festival to life."

Tickets can be purchased in cash for $5 per person per day — except for those 12 years old and under, who get in for free. ATMs are onsite.

“To further support those facing financial challenges, our media partners — Pure Country, Rock 95 and Kool FM — will be giving away free passes. We aim to make this event inclusive and enjoyable for all members of our community,” Singh said.
