The global outage impacting some computer systems is hitting home in Newmarket at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Airlines, banks and health-care systems are the primary institutions impacted by a global CrowdStrike outage today. The Newmarket hospital said it is also experiencing some system impacts due to the issues linked to the cybersecurity system.

“Clinical activity is continuing as scheduled, but some patients may experience delays,” Southlake said. “Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to fully restore our systems.”

CrowdStrike said the issue is due to a defect in a content update, not a cyberattack. The update has caused issues for Windows systems, resulting in crashes.

The company said it is working to fix the issue.

“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts,” a company statement on its website said. “The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.”

The impact on airlines has affected thousands of people globally, with delays across the continent.
