The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury has officially launched a survey to get feedback from residents about whether it should opt in to allow cannabis retail stores.

Council voted this week to defer a decision until after it got more public input from a survey and during an open forum at its Jan. 8 council meeting.

Anyone who wants to take part in the survey can find it on the town’s website.

The survey includes questions about age, level of support for cannabis retail stores and where they should be located, and personal preferences for buying recreational marijuana, among others.

The survey will run until Jan. 8 at 10 a.m., and the results will be presented to council at that evening’s meeting.

All Ontario municipalities have until Jan. 22 to decide whether to opt in.

The public is welcome to attend all council meetings, which are held at 7 p.m. in the Zima Room of the BWG Public Library.

The Bradford Board of Trade has thrown its support behind opting in to allow retail pot shops, as it stated in a Nov. 21 letter addressed to council, which it emailed to its members Dec. 21.

“It is our opinion that private cannabis retail in BWG will create jobs and generate income locally in our community,” the letter read, noting the decision was made in a “majority vote” at a Nov. 14 meeting of its board of directors.
