Santa and smiles at Summerlyn Dental (13 photos)

‘Santa Day’ is an annual party put on by Summerlyn Dental to help bring the community together

Summerlyn Dental held its seventh annual Santa Day, featuring cookies, hot chocolate, crafts and a visit from jolly St. Nick himself.

Office Manager Sonia Oliveira-Reis says the event is put together by all staff members as a way to bring the community together.

Patients along with their families, as well as non-patients, are welcome to attend the free event held every year.

"It's fun and it's a nice touch for the patients," said Oliveira-Reis.

"Everyone on the team helps out."

Typically the event sees anywhere from 50 to 70 kids every year and in lieu of money, the dental office asks for a donation to the Helping Hand Food Bank.

"Last year, I had one mom bring me five packages of diapers and wipes," she said.

"That's been the largest donation I've had so far."

Minerva MacIsaac of Minerva's Creations provided the colourful assortment of balloon characters. And the Starbucks Bradford West location supplied the free coffee.

Santa was a little delayed up at the North Pole, but once he arrived, the kids were elated, eager to meet him and snap a photo.

"It was great," said an excited Olivera-Reis.

Until next year...
