Combining polo and philanthropy, Polo For Heart is returning to the Toronto Polo Club this weekend.
The glamorous event is marking its 44th anniversary this year, spread over three days of polo matches and events, raising money for Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation.
Since 1979, Polo For Heart has raised more than $5 million for heart and stroke charities and over $1.2 million for cardiac care at the Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket.
Shelley Grant, media spokesperson for the event, said the three-day event is a "glitzy" affair and offers something unique each day.
"I was at another gala a little while ago," said Grant. "It was great food and atmosphere, but they don't have anything like polo ponies right in front of you, so it's unique, it's something different for sure."
In recognition of the donation, Southlake named its cardiac intensive care unit after Polo For Heart last May.
Tickets are sold out for Thursday and Sunday, although Grant said there may be tickets available at the door for Sunday's event, depending on the weather.
First on Thursday, June 20 is Polo under the Stars, with two polo matches, a cocktail reception, entertainment and an after party with the polo players. The theme of the event is Denim and Diamonds.
Then on Saturday, June 22 comes Polo for Heart, featuring a traditional afternoon champagne brunch with two polo matches being played. Further entertainment will be provided by Canadian Cowgirls Precision Drill Team half-time show.
Plus attendees get a chance to get up close and personal to meet some horses at the Rusty Jade Ranch. The Porsche Club or America will also be showing off their cars.
Reserved tables cost $3,500, individual pavilion tickets cost $150 plus fees.
On the final day on Sunday, June 23, comes an event for the whole family, The Polo Picnic.
Attendees are invited to bring a picnic meal and enjoy two two polo matches, as well as the Canadian Cowgirls, Rusty Jade Ranch, boutiques and, back this year, the champagne divot stomp. General admission tickets and reserved umbrella tables are available.
Grant added they are expecting 500 to 600 people at each day's event.
Polo for Heart takes place from noon to 5 p.m. at the Toronto Polo Club, 13561 Leslie St., Richmond Hill.
While several sections have sold out, there are still tickets for sale online.
