New plan unveiled for long-vacant Holland Street West area

Mod-Aire Homes proposing to build 72 semi-detached houses, 93 townhouses, two mixed-use buildings and a park in Bradford

The eastern section of the field which has sat vacant for decades at the corner of Holland Street West and Professor Day Drive could become home to both more homes and more retail.

Bradford residents can attend a special council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library at 425 Holland St. W. to hear about a plan from Mod-Aire Homes, which wants to build a subdivision with 72 semi-detached houses and 93 townhouses, plus a park, stormwater pond and two mixed-used buildings.

Those two buildings are proposed to front Holland Street West with commercial space on the ground floor and parking lots behind. The western building is planned to be eight storeys with 91 apartments and the eastern building five storeys with 36 apartments.

Across from Miller Park Avenue, a new street is planned to extend north between the two buildings and into the subdivision, before turning west and aligning with the signalized intersection at the entrance of Bradford District High School on Professor Day.

To facilitates all that, Mod-Aire Homes has applied for a zoning bylaw amendment to rezone the property from neighbourhood commercial (C2) to residential two (R2-1), residential two with exceptions, core commercial with exceptions (C1), open space (OS) and open space with exceptions.

The 7.43-hectare property is currently an open field bordered by fully-detached homes to the north and east, Holland Street West to the south and a hydro corridor plus more open field to the west.

Anyone who would like to make statement during the meeting is asked to register by emailing [email protected] before noon on Feb. 27.

Written comments can also be emailed to [email protected], or mailed to planner Priscilla Lan, Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury Office of Community Planning, 305 Barrie St., Unit 2, P.O. Box 419, Bradford, Ont., L3Z 2A9.
