Mother, son create community rock garden

Bradford mother, son looking for more people to add to their community rock garden collection

To say the last few weeks have been depressing would be an understatement.

But in these times of hardships, you can sometimes find silver linings of hope and strength. Such is the case with Bradford mother, Kristina Laviola and her four-year-old son Rocky who have started a community rock garden in front of St. Teresa of Calcutta School.

She got the idea from a friend in Toronto who had created something similar.

"I thought it was a great way to boost moral," she said.  "I know this is a difficult time and we all feel disconnected from one another. I just wanted something to show our community that we are still united."

Rocky was excited to start the garden project. Since school has been out, he has missed seeing his friends everyday and this has given him something to look forward to. He ladybug painted rock is the first and only rock currently sitting in the garden, and hopes more will be added in the coming days.

"This is something simple that anyone young or old could participate in," explained Laviola.

The garden is set up just outside the Kindergarten area of St. Teresa of Calcutta School on Northgate Drive.

Laviola and her son are hoping more people will contribute more rocks to their garden.

"Preferably with a word or design on it."
