Fall is the year’s grand finale, a beautiful and reflective moment to embrace change around us and savour the season’s blessings. As the crisp air settles in and the leaves turn to vibrant shades of gold and crimson, it’s the perfect time to pause and welcome Thanksgiving with a genuine sense of gratitude.
REALTOR® Marco Dias, born and raised in Bradford, says, “There’s no better place to bask in these precious moments than at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area.” It’s an expansive, 700-acre natural haven that invites you to explore and connect with nature.
Discover the charm of Scanlon Creek
This conservation area is rich in history. Once owned by Irish mill owner Mark Scanlon in 1824, it was where he operated six mills powered by the creek’s running water. This played a crucial role in supporting the Irish settlement. Now, 200 years later, Scanlon Creek has transformed into a nature paradise for hikers, bird watchers, and families.
“It’s one of our family’s favourite places to visit throughout the year. There’s always something to do,” says Dias.
Endless outdoor adventures
One of the best ways to experience Scanlon Creek is by exploring its scenic trails. Each one offers something unique.
He says, “One of my favourites is the Sugar Maple Trail, as a kid during school field trips and even today.” The trees lining the path offer a canopy of golden leaves during fall. The cool autumn air fills your lungs and the gentle sunlight filtering through the treetops touches your face as you walk, creating a peaceful atmosphere that heals and energizes. In these moments, surrounded by nature, we ground ourselves, breathe deeply, and feel renewed.
Scanlon Creek offers activities for everyone. Families can create lasting memories here, capturing perfect portrait moments amidst the changing leaves. For bird watchers, the area is a haven for spotting all kinds of species. Bring your camera—it’s a photographer’s dream, with views of scenic paths, glacial erratics, wildlife, and wetlands.
Kids can play in the Discovery Play Garden or explore the trails and boardwalks winding through the wetlands. Don’t forget Bark Park, the off-leash dog park!
Scanlon Creek is the perfect escape, whether you’re hiking or soaking in the serene beauty of nature.
Dias says, “This fall, take a break from the hustle and bustle, head to Scanlon Creek, and let nature work its magic. You’ll leave feeling grounded, energized, and grateful.”
