Organizers say the Maple Syrup Country Tournament will turn Elmvale into a community-focused hockey event over the next three days, immersing the town in an "charming" yet exciting showcase of the game's "future stars."
Downtown Elmvale will be transformed into a hockey town, adorned with banners celebrating past and current Elmvale Minor Hockey Association (EMHA) members who have contributed to the local association.
Local storefronts will display hockey gear, offer discounts and welcome more than 500 players, as well as team officials and families, to experience the warmth of small-town hockey hospitality, according to a news release.
"We're particularly excited to welcome a team from Moose Factory, located at the base of Hudson Bay, making the journey to join us in the spirit of friendly competition, education and community engagement," stated the release.
The tournament will be running Friday to Sunday.
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program coordinators will also be on-site to help attendees align high school programs with skilled trades career goals.
The Maple Syrup tournament is Elmvale's longest-running hockey event, according to the website. There will be 24 teams across U11, U13, and U15 divisions competing. Stay connected for updates on the website.
Edge Factor, a story-driven career and workforce platform, will host the Faces of the Future Tour in the upper level of the Flos Elmvale Community Arena (14 George St.) on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Players will have the opportunity to delve into industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and 3D printing.
