Bradford's Halibut House Fish and Chips now serve Kawartha Dairy ice cream.
The restaurant held a grand opening of the new ice cream shop addition on Wednesday evening with Mayor Rob Keffer, members of council and the Bradford Board of Trade and MP Scot Davidson.
"I kept hearing Bradford wanted a Dairy Queen, I cannot bring a Dairy Queen but Kawartha Dairy is better than a Dairy Queen," laughed Halibut House Bradford franchise owner Khurram Sultan Khwaja.
Kawartha Dairy is a Canadian-owned company, headquartered in Bobcaygeon that has been operating for over 80 years.
Inside to the right of the restaurant are the ice cream freezers with 26 flavours to choose from, including Tiger Tail, Moose Tracks and Coconut.
"It's great to be here to celebrate a new addition to a restaurant that has been here for quite a few years," said Mayor Keffer, who had nothing but good things to say about Kawartha Dairy ice cream. "It comes from Ontario farms and is well known for the quality. It really is the top-notch ice cream we have in this province."
He presented a certificate of congratulations to Kwaja on behalf of the town, as did Davidson on behalf of the Federal government.
"Congratulations, it's always a nice addition to add something to an existing business and small business people are what's driving Canada forward," said Davidson.
Representatives from the Bradford Board of Trade Donna Katz and Tyler Tossounaian gave their best wishes on the new line of business and presented a certificate commemorating the special occasion.
Kwaja was thankful for all the support he has received since first opening the location in 2019, and now as he ventures into a new line of business.
"I am really happy to be part of the Bradford community for the last three years," he said. "It is very good to see so much support, thank you so much."
The ice cream will be served at the restaurant year-round, in addition to the fish and chips menu.
Halibut House is located at 494 Holland St. W in the Holland Street Square plaza and is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
