Golf Ontario is hosting Women's Try Golf at Big Cedar Golf and Country Club in Innisfil on Sunday.

The weekend is nearly upon us. Woot!

My plan is to do a couple chores, barbecue, spend some quality time with my family and make a diving catch in my slo-pitch league (yeah, I'll be sore after that one). But if you’re looking for something to do in South Simcoe, you’ll have options this weekend as well.

Here’s what’s happening in Bradford and Innisfil in the coming days:

Parent and child shinny

Kids nine years old and younger and their parents or guardians are invited to an informal game of hockey at the BWG Leisure Centre (471 West Park Ave.) Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21. The Saturday session starts at 7:15 a.m.; Sunday shinny hits the ice at 10 a.m. You must wear skates or ride a sledge to be allowed on the ice surface. The program ratio is one parent to a maximum of five children. Slap shots are not permitted. For full drop-in rates and other details, visit calendar.townofbwg.com

Library’s Sensory Room opening

The Innisfil ideaLAB and Library is hosting an open house for its new Sensory Room at the Lakeshore branch (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This specially designed space will cater to individuals with sensory processing needs. It offers a variety of both calming and stimulating elements, and includes items such as tactile discs and balls, a carousel spinner seat, light cubes, infinity mirrors, and other textured and touch-sensitive items. Aside from the open house, the Sensory Room can also be reserved per family, for 45-minute sessions, and will be available for bookings on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations can be made online at innisfilidealab.ca/sensory-room.

Have a bite with Barrie-Innisfil's MP, MPP

Join Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard and MPP Andrea Khanjin for their seventh annual community barbecue outside the Stroud Innisfil Community Centre (7883 Yonge St.) Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Constituents from both Barrie and Innisfil are invited to enjoy free food and fun activities, meet friends, and connect with others. It happens rain or shine. Reserve a spot on Brassard's or Khanjin's website.

Give golf a shot

Golf Ontario is hosting Women's Try Golf at Big Cedar Golf and Country Club (1590 Houston Ave.) in Innisfil on Sunday at 2 p.m. This fun and social event aims to give women 19 and older an opportunity to try the sport in a stress-free environment. Play nine holes with other women who are just there to have fun — a welcome video and tips are given, clubs will be available for use, and there are no rules or scores kept. Participants also get a gift and complimentary beverage. Women can register in foursomes or as individuals.
