Five events you have to check out in South Simcoe this weekend

Got a passion for stamps to feed? Interested in local politics? Up for embracing the spirit of the Halloween season? Whatever lights your fire, this weekend’s calendar likely has something to keep it burning.  

Here’s what’s happening in Bradford and Innisfil in the coming days:

Address your love for stamps

The Barrie District Stamp Club will host its 61st annual show at the Stroud Innisfil Community Centre (7883 Yonge St.) Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking is free. A range of exhibits, a dealer bourse and a club table will be on display. There’s something for everyone, from beginners to experienced stamp collectors. Community Access Networking (CAN) in Bradford

Ward 5 residents are invited to learn more about town services and share ideas with Mayor James Leduc, Deputy Mayor Raj Sandhu and Coun. Peter Ferragine at Fire Station 1, 75 Melbourne Dr., Saturday at 10 a.m. CAN is an initiative established by council, providing residents the opportunity to raise issues in a relaxed, friendly and informal environment. Although the events have been designed to highlight one ward per meeting​, all residents are welcome to attend any date of their choosing. Cookstown BOOnanza is back

Join members of the Cookstown and District Chamber of Commerce for trick-or-treating Saturday, where local businesses will be handing out treats to all the little ghouls and goblins. There will also be a sticker scavenger hunt and a ‘Snap, Tag and Share to Win’ contest. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Collect your map from 19 Queen St. More details can be found at cookstownchamber.ca.

Friday Harbour welcomes trick-or-treaters

Head to the resort Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. for the Trick or Treat the Promenade event. Activities will include a scavenger hunt and Halloween-themed lawn games. There will also be a disc jockey. Admission and parking are free, though there is a cost for face painting ($5), slime kits ($10), do-it-yourself trick-or-treat bags ($12) and the family pumpkin-carving competition ($25). A kids costume contest runs at 1 p.m.; trick-or-treating happens from 2 to 4 p.m. Further information can be found at fridayharbour.com.

BWG Music and Poetry Circle

What's a music and poetry circle? Come see for yourself at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library (425 Holland St. W.) on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring a song, an instrument or a piece of poetry. You can also just sit, relax and enjoy as neighbours share something they're working on. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Further information can be found at calendar.townofbwg.com.
