Take a spin on a midway ride or drive to the basket for a good cause this weekend.

Once again, Saturday and Sunday in South Simcoe promises to be jam-packed with fun activities — whether it's Innisfil Onion Fest, the Hoop for a Cause Community Food Drive or a drop-in family storytime that whets your particular appetite.

Here’s what’s happening in Bradford and Innisfil in the coming days:

Take a bite out of Onion Fest

Innisfil Community Events will present the third annual Innisfil Onion Fest from June 21 to 23. The event takes place at the Innisfil Recreational Complex (7315 Yonge St.). It will include live entertainment, a cornhole tournament, children’s activities, midway rides, fireworks, food trucks, onion-eating contests, a beverage garden and an artisan market. Kids 12 and under get in for free. For everyone else, tickets can be purchased in cash for $5 per person per day. Get more details on the event website.

Drop-in family storytime

Join staff at the Lakeshore branch of the Innisfil ideaLAB and Library (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) Saturday, June 22 for the next instalment of this weekly family event. Expect an hour of stories, songs, crafts and playtime. Get to know other families in your community while nurturing your child's love of books and reading. All ages are welcome, though it is considered most suitable for kids six and under. This event is free, it runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and no registration is required.

Fill hoops and food bank shelves

Hoop for a Cause, which includes a three-on-three basketball tournament, music from DJ Dave, free pizza and children’s activities including painting, bracelet-making and other art projects, happens at the BWG Leisure Centre (471 West Park Ave.) from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Individuals can drop in, but anyone putting together a team is encouraged to register ahead of time using this website. The price of per person entry is a non-perishable food item. Proceeds support Bradford’s Helping Hand Food Bank. For more about the event, email [email protected].

English conversation circle

If you’ve ever wanted to take the step of improving your language skills in a fun and supportive environment, drop by Innisfil's Lakeshore library on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Led by YMCA newcomer services personnel, the free circle provides a welcoming and inclusive space for learners of all levels. No registration is required, just stop in.

BWG Music and Poetry Circle

What's a music and poetry circle? Come see for yourself at the Bradford library on Sunday, June 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring a song, an instrument or a piece of poetry. You can also just sit, relax and enjoy as neighbours share something they're working on. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Further information can be found at calendar.townofbwg.com.
