It’s weekends like this that make you appreciate our public libraries.
When I put together our weekend event listing, I usually try to scour a couple websites, so I’m giving residents a variety of activities of potential interest. And, honestly, this latest round was a bit light on options. Then I got to the Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury library sites, and they didn’t disappoint. From cultural learning experiences to some programs that are just plain fun, it seems like there’s always something to do at a local library. That doesn’t even take into account their traditional purposes for residents — borrowing from outstanding collections of literature and media, helping with research, or using their computers.
Libraries are true pillars of our communities.
Here’s what’s happening in Bradford and Innisfil over the next few days:
Drop-in family storytime
Join staff at the Lakeshore branch of the Innisfil ideaLAB and Library (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) Saturday, March 22 for the next instalment of this weekly family event. Expect an hour of stories, songs, crafts and playtime. Get to know other families in your community while nurturing your child's love of books and reading. All ages are welcome, though it is considered most suitable for kids six and under. This event is free, it runs from 10 to 11 a.m. and no registration is required.
Learn about Ramadan
Local author Munaza Hamid leads a storytime at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library (425 Holland St. W.) featuring her book, Welcome to Ramadan. There will also be crafts and henna application. All ages are welcome to attend. This event runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon.

If you’ve ever wanted to take the step of improving your language skills in a fun and supportive environment, drop by Innisfil's Lakeshore library on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Led by YMCA newcomer services personnel, the free circle provides a welcoming and inclusive space for learners of all levels. No registration is required, just stop in.
A Playapalooza adventure
The Innisfil library’s Lakeshore branch will host Playapalooza on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. From hands-on crafts and engaging STEAM activities to family movies and games, an adventure is waiting to unfold. All ages are welcome to this free event. No registration is required.
BWG Music and Poetry Circle
What's a music and poetry circle? Come see for yourself at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library (425 Holland St. W.) on Sunday, March 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring a song, an instrument or a piece of poetry. You can also just sit, relax and enjoy as neighbours share something they're working on. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Further information can be found at calendar.townofbwg.com.
