Is it just me, or does everyone just seem to need the upcoming long weekend?

I know I’m looking forward to kicking my feet up, having a cold beverage or two and celebrating Canada. If you’re looking for something to do in South Simcoe this weekend, events are a bit limited, though July 1 itself gives you plenty of options for places in which to wear your red-and-white garb.

Here’s what’s happening in Bradford and Innisfil on Saturday, Sunday and Monday:

Farmers’ market celebrates Pride

The Bradford Farmers' Market (425 Holland St. W.) will host its very own Pride Festival Saturday, June 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., where it’ll share space with some incredible local community groups, including Fierté Simcoe Pride, Gilbert Centre and TransQ, as well as a talented lineup of bakers, artisans, food vendors, farmers and youth musicians. Be sure to stop by the Flower Power Van for a groovin' photo backdrop and the Welcome Booth to pick up some free rainbow stickers and enter to win a prize. Afterwards, head to the neighbouring Bradford library for a special treat — an all-ages Haus of Deveraux show at 1 p.m.

Public skating hits the ice Bradford

The BWG Leisure Centre (471 West Park Ave.) will host all-ages public skating on Sunday, June 30 at 12:15 p.m. Everyone who participates in this leisure program should consider wearing a helmet and gloves while on the ice. Children nine years old or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, while food, drinks, skating aids, sticks, pucks, balls, sleds, chairs and strollers are not permitted. More details can be found at calendar.townofbwg.com.

Sandycove’s annual Canada Day parade

Innisfil residents are invited to celebrate Canada Day on Monday, July 1 with a parade at Sandycove Acres (2 Weeping Willow Dr.) starting at 10 a.m. The event also includes a veterans’ breakfast, barbecue, and games for families of Sandycove residents. Visit the event’s Facebook page for more details.

Lions Club celebrates on July 1

Join the Innisfil Lions Club for free family fun Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be games, prizes, hot dogs and refreshments. A flag raising with local dignitaries will also take place at noon. The club is at 982 Innisfil Beach Rd. Further information can be found at calendar.innisfil.ca.

Bradford brings fireworks, buskers to the party

Of course, no local Canada Day celebration would be complete without a trip to Bradford. The town will host its action-packed event at the Bradford and District Memorial Community Centre (125 Simcoe Rd.) Monday from 4 to 10 p.m. Watch busker performances from Bex in Motion and Rockabilly Joe, and fantastic dance routines from Elite Dance Corps. Blue Rodeo tribute band True Rodeo takes to the main stage at 8:30 p.m. Drop by the kids zone for a jam-packed evening of fun inflatable slides, obstacle courses and games, get a non-permanent airbrush or glitter tattoo, and take some selfies at the chalkboard station or the photo frame. Then grab some food and cap the night off with a stunning firework show. For the full event schedule, visit townofbwg.com.
