Local parks and green spaces are looking especially vibrant lately, a fact that hasn’t escaped REALTOR® Marco Dias.

“Growing up, I was fortunate to live next to Lions Park, one of Bradford’s largest parks. I would spend hours playing and enjoying everything it had to offer,” he says. Now, as a father and a family man, he understands the importance of having safe and welcoming open spaces nearby—places where children, teens, families, seniors and even pets can enjoy themselves.

“We’ve seen some incredible additions and upgrades to local parks in Bradford,” says Dias. “If you haven’t had a chance to visit Henderson Memorial Community Park or the new basketball courts turned ice rinks in the winter at Lions Park, they are must-sees with fun for all ages.”

Public parks

The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury manages 29 parks and parkettes, spanning over 100 acres. These spaces provide residents with a wealth of recreational opportunities, featuring popular amenities like basketball courts, pickleball and tennis courts, playgrounds, ball diamonds, soccer pitches, skate parks and community gardens. Whether walking, running or biking along the pathways, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

During the summer months, families with young children flock to the popular local splash pads to cool off and have fun. Currently a feature at 6 parks, these water-play areas have whimsical water spray elements that little ones adore, and they’re a big hit with older kids too when temperatures rise. Come join the fun and make a splash!

Another important element includes areas designed for relaxation and gathering—amenities like benches, shade structures and picnic tables. Often overlooked, these features, such as the large pavilion at Lions Park that is ideal for birthday parties or the gazebo at Alan Kuzmich Memorial Park that offers shade, contribute significantly to creating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. They also encourage people to explore the nearby trail systems.

Of course, anyone who likes getting out on the trails to do a bit more exploring will also love the variety of well-developed urban trails and walking paths found throughout Bradford and Simcoe County.

One favourite destination is Scanlon Creek Conservation Area. This nature preserve boasts over 700 acres of varied terrain and includes lots of hiking trails. It’s a big draw for bird watchers and photographers, and the off-leash dog park, Bark Park, is especially popular.

You can explore forests and marshlands here, see some wildlife and stop to picnic. The trail system covers most of the 300-hectare park.

If you’re looking for inspiration, this list of the best trails in Bradford West Gwillimbury from AllTrails.com is a great place to start. It includes a dozen options, whether you plan to hike, bike or trail run, and includes reviews and photos from fellow nature lovers who have spent time on the trails.

Says Dias, “Some of my most cherished childhood memories stem from the years I spent at our local parks, where I explored, played and made lasting friendships. Explore your local park today and create your own unforgettable memories!”
