Cadet's Corner is a weekly feature from the local Air Cadets squadron.
It was great to see everyone out at Carrot Fest this past Saturday and we really appreciated all those individuals that stopped by our booth.
For cadets who are registered by early September, you will have an opportunity to participate in a gliding activity at Base Borden. Gliding is a recreational activity in which pilots fly unpowered aircrafts known as gliders or sailplanes using naturally occurring currents of rising air in the atmosphere to remain airborne.
Complementary programs are elements, which take place on weekends and other nights through the week. These support the mandatory training — for example, gliding and a weekend field training exercise.
Our weekly training, or parade nights as they are referred to in the program, will be held at Fieldcrest Elementary School every Thursday starting Sept. 15. As the training year mimics the school year (September to June), new registration begins at the end of August. Register here: bradfordaircadets.ca/joining-information.
Cadets are supervised and trained by members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and civilian volunteers from the Bradford community. The commanding officer and her officer team have decades of experience at several of the top units in Ontario and are excited to bring their experience to the province’s newest cadet program.
The cost for the year is $125, which is the administration and insurance fee for the Air Cadet League Ontario Provincial Committee. Weekly training and the uniforms each cadet receives are covered by the Department of National Defence and are free to participants.
If you are interested in joining Bradford 37 Orville Hand Squadron, join us on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. for registration and 7:30 p.m. for the recruitment presentation and Q&A session in the gymnasium at Fieldcrest Elementary School (100 Professor Day Dr., Bradford). Recruit applications will be accepted both online or in person on that day.
