Barrie emergency crews were called to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) for a fire this morning and remain on scene.
The fire, which has been extinguished, was on the fifth floor. Some patients were being moved to other areas due to smoke.
Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark told BarrieToday they received the call at 9:57 a.m. Six trucks are currently on scene at RVH.
“There was a working fire in a generator room on the fifth floor,” she said, adding the hospital’s sprinklers activated and crews are currently working to ventilate the smoke. “We had to isolate the power and the fire is knocked down at this time.”
Clark said crews completed their primary search. There were no injuries. Officials at RVH have activated their emergency plan.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said six police units attended the Georgian Drive scene to provide assistance, noting their role in this type of situation would be to conduct traffic control to allow other emergency vehicles in, as well as to ensure individuals that need to get in to the hospital for urgent care are able to do so safely.
