Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign is officially over, but the smiles continued this week, as local franchise owner Perry Thornton presented the proceeds of this year’s cookie sales to representatives of Community & Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS).

Four years ago, co-owners Perry and Jack Thornton made a commitment to CHATS, promising to donate the money raised through Smile Cookie sales during a five-year period to help pay for a new wheelchair-accessible van.

The commitment has been a real boost to the charitable organization, said CHATS CEO Christina Bisanz.

“This has allowed us to serve residents of the Bradford West Gwillimbury area with transportation for seniors because there is a lack of public transit,” Bisanz said.

Bisanz was in Bradford to accept this year’s cheque for a whopping $11,196.

Asked if the amount was a record, Thornton replied: “It is! That’s the most we’ve done. People love our cookies.”

The money was raised at all four of Bradford’s Tim Hortons stores. Next year will be the final year of the commitment to CHATS.
