A group of Bradford and area ladies were up early Saturday morning to take part in the 30th annual Santa Shuffle in support of The Salvation Army.
The run takes place every every December in partnership with The Running Room, at locations all over the country. However, with Covid running rampant, this year's run had to be done virtually, with individuals taking part in their own 5K routes.
Every athlete pledges a certain amount and collects donations from family and friends with funds going toward The Salvation Army.
The group of ladies meet regularly throughout the year to run together and take part in the Salvation Army run every holiday season.
"We have done a bunch of half marathons together and we run pretty regularly through town," said one of the participants Kelly Garbe.
"Everyone does their part," said Garbe, adding that it is a great way to raise awareness about The Salvation Army.
"You don't have to be part of the Salvation Army organization to participate and give," said participant Sue Jones.
"We know it's a critical time for the Salvation Army," said Garbe, "this is the significant time when they raise funds and funds are down for most charitable organizations."
The ladies kicked off their run in front of the BWG Leisure Centre, down Holland Street, up Langford Boulevard and through Summerlyn Village, meeting back at the leisure centre parking lot for a socially distanced tailgate party.
This year's Santa Shuffle virtual is a week long event running from Dec. 5 - 12. To learn more or make a donation visit https://www.santashuffle.ca
