Bradford Immigrant and Community Services (BICS) is dedicated to supporting immigrants, refugees and their families, by providing essential resources and services that help them integrate and thrive in their new community.

“We opened our doors in January 1994 and for over 30 years, we've been a part of this vibrant, culturally diverse community," shared Isabel Oliveira, Office Manager for BICS.

"We have helped thousands by providing English classes, settlement services, referrals to employment services and so much more. We have supported individuals by providing referrals to help them obtain professional accreditation. Helping families register their children for their first day of school is always a special moment.”

Their Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program offers free English language training to help newcomers improve their language skills to facilitate their integration to Canadian society.

"Word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising. When clients refer their friends and family to us, it speaks to the trust and impact we've built over the years," said Oliveira.

"The success stories stay with you," Oliveira added. "I’ve met women who escaped lives of abuse, people fleeing war, and families who arrived with nothing but hope. They’ve learned English, found work, gained citizenship and become proud members of Canadian society—all to give their children a better life."

The organization regularly hosts workshops on financial literacy, legal rights, and health services to ensure newcomers have the knowledge and tools to succeed.

"We all came here from somewhere. That shared journey connects us all and reminds us to be grateful for the opportunities we've been given," Oliveira reflected.

Looking ahead, BICS plans to expand its services to meet the growing needs of the community.

"Our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of funders like Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the County of Simcoe. Community partners also step up, donating furniture, winter coats, backpacks for kids, and even gift cards during the holidays. Some of our former clients have come back to give, paying forward the kindness they once received," Oliveira added.
