My name is Mark Contois. I have been a councillor in Bradford West Gwillimbury for eight years. I have lived here with my wife, Jayne, and son, Zachary, for the past 20 years. We have invested in BWG, as we own homes in Ward 6 and Ward 4 and a business in Ward 2.
I have been an active community volunteer, including being a coach for three-on-three hockey, a trainer for Bradford Minor Hockey, vice president and coach for BWG softball.
I am a supporter of and volunteer for the Bradford Lions Club.
Professionally, I am a member of Local 721 Ironworkers. During the last 30 years with the Local, I have taken on increasing responsibilities, including superintendent and general foreman positions. I was recently elected by the members to be a trustee and to sit on the governing board for the local union.
For the past eight years while serving as a councillor, I have sat on the following committees: facilities, trails, downtown revitalization, and fire and emergency.
I am proud of our council's teamwork and achievements, which include the new library, leisure centre, trails master plan, Highway 400 employment lands, downtown revitalization, alternative seniors living, improving roads, new parks, responsible taxation, and increasing the number of firefighters for community safety.
With your support, we need to address more affordable housing. We were successful with seniors housing bringing a variety of choices. Now we need to help young and older families with affordable housing needs by partnering with Simcoe County.
I would like to move forward with the expansion of our fire hall for our growing community. The Highway 404-400 Connecting Link will always be a focus to help support our road needs.
The Highway 400 employment lands have been started, and now it's time to complete this for this community's job and taxation benefits.
