What should parents know?

In order to make camp a positive experience, please include details on any special requirements, allergies, personal care needs or medical concerns at the time of registration and contact the Recreation Programmers to ensure staff are aware. For children who require inclusion support please review the Accessible Inclusive Recreation section.

Sign in/sign Out Procedures
    •    Staff strictly adhere to a sign in/sign out protocol.
    •    Campers arrive at 9:00 am and pick up is at 4:00 pm, unless registered in extended care. Camp staff will meet you at the designated drop off area.
    •    If your child is not feeling well please do not send them to camp.  Contact the BWG Leisure Centre Customer Service Desk at 905-775-7529, ext. 6007 to indicate your child will not be attending camp.
    •    At the end of the camp day your child will be brought to the designated pick up area.
    •    Photo I.D. will be required by all parents/guardians each time at pick-up. Written consent by parent/guardian must be provided if child wishes to sign in/out of camps on their own. The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury prefers that children are signed in and out by a parent/guardian. If you require someone other than a parent/guardian to pick up your child, please include on the Camper Pick-Up Permission Form. We will require the pick-up person to provide photo ID.

Forms will be emailed prior to the camp week.

Parent/guardian responsibility

Prior to the camp week the Summer Camp Safety Expectation Agreement will be distributed by email to each camper. Parents/guardians and the participating children are requested to review and sign the agreement.

Please review the following safety-oriented guidelines with your child to ensure camper safety.
    •    Respect others and their property, including staff
    •    Respect the safety of all participants, including staff.
    •    Follow instructions and listen to camp staff.
    •    Aggressive/inappropriate behaviour is not permitted.
    •    Use appropriate language.
    •    Bullying and play fighting are not appropriate behaviour.
    •    All campers and counsellors are expected to clean up after themselves at the end of each activity.
    •    Campers will not be permitted to leave the site without a staff member accompanying them.
    •    Wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer.

Follow-up communication or conferences may be required to address concerns. Physical aggression towards another person or oneself may require a temporary or full suspension from camp(s).

Behaviour

The Community Services Department reserves the right to suspend or withdraw a camper from the program if the enjoyment and safety for themselves or others is jeopardized. There will be a follow up communication with parents/guardians. When required camp staff will contact parents or guardians to make arrangements to pick up their child from camp as soon as possible.

Medical needs and/or medications

If your child is bringing medication to camp, please list the type of medication, dosage & times for the medication to be taken.  Medication must be brought in an original labelled prescription container. Counsellors will not administer medication.

A medication form is required to be completed prior to your child attending camp, should your child require any medication.

Campers well being

All parents/guardians should be aware that the Family and Child Services Act requires any suspicion or allegation of child abuse to be reported directly to Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions. The Act identifies that each of us have a responsibility to the welfare of children. It states that any member of the public, including professionals who work with children, have an obligation to promptly report if they suspect a child is or may be in need of protection.

For more information, visit Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions website.
