Line 8, situated between Barrie Street and Sideroad 10, serves as a major arterial road, facilitating traffic flow and connecting adjacent local and collector roads to Simcoe County Road 10, Simcoe County Road 4, and the future Bradford Bypass. With the Town of Bradford anticipating significant growth, there is a projected increase in traffic congestion and a decline in service levels on Line 8. To address these challenges, and in alignment with the Town’s strategic plan to mitigate congestion, foster employment growth, enhance community and traffic safety, and upgrade existing infrastructure, improvements to Line 8 are being considered.
The Process
The project is being planned through the Schedule C process in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (2023). Extensive public and technical agency consultations will be crucial in developing study recommendations. Preliminary project information and planning alternatives were presented at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Public Consultation Centres in December 2017, May 2019, and November 2019.
Between 2020 and 2022, the Town updated its Transportation Master Plan and conducted a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for improvements in the Holland Street downtown core. In the fall of 2021, the province committed to implementing the Bradford Bypass. Considering the new information from these studies, future traffic conditions on Line 8 were reassessed.
A 4th Public Consultation Centre (PCC) is being scheduled to present the updated information and a revised design concept for the preferred solution for Line 8. PCC#4 will be held as an informal “Open House” with materials pertaining to the study on display, and members of the project team on hand to answer questions and discuss issues related to the project.
