In partnership with Making Change and Alectra Utilities, BWG Library is excited to host a presentation titled “If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes” on November 25 at 7:00 pm.
This community presentation will spark conversations and discussions around diversity and inclusion. Speaker Debbie Opoku-Mulder will share her lived experience as a Black woman and present a conversation about how Making Change is a lifelong journey. She will discuss the current Black Lives Matter focus and local initiatives, and how it has impacted her personally and in the community. Debbie will also reflect on why Making Change was launched and detail her community work.
This session is meant to move the conversation forward while being mindful of the sensitive nature of the discussion. Debbie will share perspectives and suggestions on becoming an ally and doing self-work around anti-Black racism. The presentation will conclude with an opportunity for questions and answers.
Presenter Debbie Opoku-Mulder holds a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology. She is a registered psychotherapist, speaker and mental health advocate. Debbie is passionate about equipping individuals and groups with the tools and resources needed to educate and motivate themselves to be innovative and creative. Her work is guided from an anti-oppressive, healing focused, trauma informed anti-Black racism lens. Debbie’s talks are informed by her direct experience with stigma and the mental health care system.
