We are fortunate to have many local groups and organizations offering Black History Month programming, as well as events offered by the County of Simcoe and beyond. It’s not too late to get involved – here are just a few that are coming up:
The BWG Public Library and Cultural Centre is offering several events, including:
- February 12 (10 am): African Voyages: A Virtual Performance with Juno Nominated musician, composer, dancer and educator Njacko Backo. Click for details and to register.
- February 17 (7 pm): Such a Fun Age: A Special Black History Month Book Club. Click for details and to register.
The Simcoe County Museum is hosting a virtual speaker series. Registration is free by following this link:
- February 7 (1-2 pm): Sheffield Park Black History Museum and Heritage Park. Speakers Carolynn and Sylvia Wilson.
- February 15 (1-2 pm): "Several sides of the Story". Speaker Dr. Rita Shelton Deverell.
Black Artists’ Network in Dialogue in partnership with UPlift Black in Barrie is presenting a virtual exhibit on Black military history in Canada:

Heritage Canada is hosting a Black History Month Virtual Celebration through Facebook Live.
