Every year, local realtor Robin Evans holds a special golfing event to raise money for local charities, to give back to his community. This year the tournament and dinner are on Friday June 2. The tee off time is 1 p.m. at Harbourview Golf and Country Club, Gilford.
The tournament this year is to honour the memories of Bob Sherbo Sr. and Bob Sherbo Jr., who were both well-known and loved members of the community. Sherbo Jr. passed away in 2018 in a drowning accident while on holidays, and his dad passed away in September 2022 at age 82, after years of failing health.
“Robin is passionate about helping out in our area,” said Shawna Christophersen, who is a partner, along with Georgeina Blyth, at Royal LePage RCR Realty. “Last year, the event raised over $25,000 for local charities,” she added.
Tickets for the fundraiser are wildly popular and sell out quickly, which is “wonderful,” said Robin, “but I am specifically looking for sponsors for the tournament, to raise as much money as possible for local charities. We help people with a hand up rather than a hand out.”
Two local charities which benefit every year from Robin’s tournament are the Canadian Tire Jumpstart and The Gilford Hall and he continues to support many other local charities as well. In the past, the charities that have benefited from the tournaments have been
- The Children's War Amps,
- Matthews House Hospice,
- The Bradford West Gwillimbury Good Neighbours Campaign,
- The Hub Youth Drop In Centre,
- The Breakfast Program,
- The Danube Seniors Leisure Centre,
- Helping Hand Food Bank,
- Madi Vanstone Cancer Treatment, and more.
“We know there are many local businesses who love our community and want to help out, but don’t know how,” said Georgeina. “There are many levels of sponsorship available, so local businesses should just call or email Robin and pledge their support. It would be wonderful to help even more charities in these difficult times,” she finished.
Businesses or individuals interested in sponsoring can contact Robin Evans at [email protected] or call his cell at 905-953-6200 to pledge their support.
“Let’s make this the best year ever, for this important event,” said Robin Evans. “I know we can do it!”
