NEWS RELEASE
SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE SERVICE
*************************
Halloween is here, and it is important to prioritize safety for an enjoyable experience for all.
Safety is a shared responsibility and by following simple safety guidelines, together we can all help keep children, families and our community safe.
South Simcoe police will be proactively monitoring and patrolling neighbourhoods, especially during peak hours when children are on foot to ensure the safety of families and community members. We are reminding drivers to be extra vigilant and obey speed limits. Watch for children and individuals crossing streets and stepping off of curbs. For those going door to door, be sure to stay visible and walk safely.
Always use sidewalks and cross at crosswalks when they are available. Use flashlights and reflective gear — costumes should include reflective materials and avoid masks that can obstruct vision. Children should travel in groups or with trusted adults. Encourage friends or family to join, and make sure at least one adult accompanies young children. Establish a safe route and a set time for return. Only approach homes with the lights on.
“Halloween is a time for fun, but it also brings some unique safety concerns. We encourage everyone to enjoy Halloween responsibly by following safety guidelines. By balancing fun and safety, we can contribute to keeping our communities safe. We wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween.” — Chief John Van Dyke, South Simcoe police
