Fire crews rescue worker stuck in well in Newmarket

Ministry of Labour is investigating the incident following the successful rescue

Central York Fire Services was called to a house in Newmarket on Monday after a man was trapped in a well.

Firefighters responded to a home on Belfry Drive on Oct. 7 at about 4 p.m. for a trench rescue.

“A worker performing repair work in a well encountered difficulty exiting while ascending,” said the Ontario Ministry of Labour. “Emergency services responded, and the local fire department successfully assisted the worker. No injuries were reported.” 

No injuries have been reported.

Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene, collaborating with CYFS to retrieve the man.

York Region Paramedic Services was also on the scene to assist.

A ministry inspector has been assigned to investigate the incident.

Fire services said it handed the scene over to York Regional Police and informed the ministry of the incident.
